EC-97/DG.3 Report by the Director-General: Progress in the Elimination of the Syrian Chemical Weapons Programme (OPCW)

The Technical Secretariat produced its 91st monthly report to the Council on the progress of eliminating the Syrian chemical weapons program. Of note: the Secretariat informed the Syrian Arab Republic on 16 April 2021 that a new outstanding issue would be opened and discussed at the next round of DAT consultations regarding the September 2020 detection of a neat chemical warfare agent in a storage container at a previously declared chemical weapons facility.

The ocean is a giant dump for chemical weapons. Can we clean it up before it’s too late? (Popular Science)

There are roughly 150 to 300 sites with dumped chemical weapons worldwide. Researchers from Middlebury Institute of International Studies in California have calculated that the total amount of chemical munitions lying on the ocean floor reached 1.6 million tons. Increased research is being done on the impact and extent of dumped chemical weapons.
